Summer Interns

June 15, 2017

Our summer internship program has once again begun at McGee, Hearne & Paiz, LLP (MHP)! We are happy to welcome Austin Segrave and Amber Huseth to our summer internship program.

We strive to hire the best and brightest to join our MHP Team and our internship program has been an integral piece of our success in talent recruitment. Our internship committee, which is made up of six professional staff (all former interns!), works hard throughout the year to prepare for our interns, ensuring we provide them with an enriching and rewarding experience. Throughout the ten weeks they are with us, we strive to expose them to all services we provide, our people and the Cheyenne community. To accomplish that goal, they will take on roles within our audit teams; projects within our tax and accounting services departments; grab some coffee or lunch with different partners and managers; take part in CFD pancake breakfasts; spend time at various Not-For-Profit Organizations around town to help them with any projects they want to knock off of their to-do lists; and so much more! Our hope is to provide more than just summer work for these students, and if they can see calling Cheyenne & MHP their home after graduation, then we know we have succeeded.

Austin is a native of Cheyenne and graduated from Central High in 2012. He is currently majoring in Accounting and Business Economics with a minor in Finance at the University of Wyoming and is graduating next year in the spring. When asked why he likes accounting, he stated, "I like it because it is very logical and it makes sense." Austin is hoping to pursue a career in the public accounting field. He is active at his church and in his fraternity, as well as spending time outdoors. He especially enjoys skiing, biking and hiking. A fun fact about Austin is that he is currently working on his private pilot license. He is very excited to be an intern at MHP and is looking forward to a fantastic summer with the firm.

Amber recently graduated from the University of Wyoming (UW) in May 2017, earning a Bachelor's of Science in Accounting. Amber was a student member of the Wyoming Society of CPA Board of Trustees, President of Beta Alpha Psi, Vice President of the Institute of Management Accountants and a Volunteer Tax Preparer for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance during her career at UW.

Amber has returned to MHP for a summer internship after spending the tax season with us. She shared her thoughts about tax season and the upcoming audit season. "I had the amazing opportunity to intern in the tax practice at MHP this past busy season. That experience afforded me invaluable experience and insight into what a busy season looks like, how to prepare both individual and business tax returns and the culture of MHP. My tax internship taught me many lessons such as time management, the expectations of a quality product and the inner operations of a firm in busy season.  Transitioning from a tax intern to a summer audit intern is exciting as I will have the opportunity to experience how MHP operates in two of its main service lines, be able to draw comparisons and gain useful experience performing both audit and tax work. As I enter my summer internship I am excited to learn the audit methodology of MHP, be able to compare and contrast how the tax and audit practices approach jobs and gain relationships with more people in the firm and with clients. I am very excited to be back in the office and thankful for the opportunity to learn and gain experience."
