Tax Paraprofessional - Cheyenne

FULL-TIME position in our Cheyenne, Wyoming office.

Big firm expertise with small firm customer service. With over 75 employees, MHP is the largest regional CPA firm in Wyoming. However, since our start in the early 1930s, MHP has been dedicated to personalized customer service to both our employees and clients. MHP is deeply rooted in the Cheyenne community, both figuratively and literally-not only have we been around for over 90 years, but our office is also located in the heart of downtown Cheyenne within walking distance of good food, coffee, and breweries.

Who You Are

  • You have 2+ years of experience in accounting and/or finance, or the equivalent education.
  • You have an understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, and tax preparation services.
  • You have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and can easily be taught new software.
  • You are familiar with tax preparation and have a basic understanding of income taxes.
  • You can problem-solve and think both creatively and logically.
  • You have a demonstrated ability to self-direct and effectively organize, prioritize, and manage multiple engagements under tight deadlines.
  • You are a "people person" and skilled at building relationships.
  • Your analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills are top-notch.
  • You are willing and enthusiastic to get the job done-even if that means some late nights and early mornings.

The Role

The Tax Paraprofessional will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, under the direct supervision of a Senior, Supervisor, Manager, or Partner to receive appropriate guidance and training to complete tax assignments. In this role, you must be comfortable working independently and collaborating on a team.

The Duties

  • We would prefer to have someone who could perform bookkeeping services for clients including, but not limited to, recording of transactions, preparing adjusting journal entries, preparation of trial balances, depreciation schedules and monthly, quarterly, or annual reconciliations.
  • Prepare annual Form 1099s.
  • Grasp concepts quickly and demonstrate knowledge of basic technical skills, as well as related knowledge of necessary systems and procedures.
  • Gather data for tax return preparation and maintaining client tax files.
  • Prepare federal and state tax returns.
