Summer Fun at MHP

August 23, 2016

There is something to be said for things that stay the same, like rec league sports, McGee, Hearne & Paiz, LLP (MHP) giving back to the community through volunteer work, and late nights under the stars. But 2016 brought a BIG change to MHP. It was decided that instead of doing the usual "End of Tax Season" Party, we would wait and celebrate this summer with a team building, family friendly company barbecue. And, by all accounts, it went over with MUCH success!

In mid-June, MHP Partner Brenda Elliott and husband, Bob, graciously opened their home to MHP employees and their families for an afternoon and evening of great times. Complete with sand volleyball, horseshoes, corn hole and inflatables, giggles and happiness could be heard for miles. "I enjoyed getting to participate in fun activities with coworkers who I don't get to see every day. It doesn't get a whole lot better than seeing your boss jump in a jumpy castle!" stated Tax Manager, Jaime Liberty. The barbecue gave opportunity for employees, both new and old, to mingle and get to know each other, making the time at the office that much more enjoyable. Erin Nuland, Tax Senior Associate, said, "I loved the family-friendly atmosphere—that my kids were able to run free and play and meet my co-workers' kids, while I could mingle with adults." "The location and food were all good, but the BEST was hanging out with everyone from here," commented Trista Wood, Small Business Accounting Technician.

To continue the team building fun this summer, MHP sponsored a team in the City of Cheyenne Parks and Recreation Women's Softball League. "Slow Pitch Perfect" played one to two games a week from April through July. "There is nothing better than softball on a warm summer night and while we may not be as skilled as professional players, we sure have a great time!", stated Audit Manager, Stephanie Pickering. The ladies had a great time and finished in the middle of their division. Not to be outdone, the gentlemen of MHP also spent plenty of time outdoors…mostly playing golf…for CHARITY! MHP is a leader in the community when it comes to philanthropy. Charity golf tournaments are HUGE here in Cheyenne, starting in May and running into the fall. Josh Olson, Tax Senior Associate, participates because "It's a fun way to raise funds for great causes while getting to know people you work with on a more personal level outside of the office environment."

MHP takes advantage of the Wyoming Tribune Eagle's "Fridays on the Plaza" as another opportunity to bring coworkers together while raising money. Administrative Assistant Tere Ross, and Audit Associates Travis Bogard and Breanna Bredthauer, ALL agree, "It's the people" who make this such a wonderful time. This year MHP worked the beer tent for the opening night with the ultimate 70's disco dance party, "Boogie Machine", and again in August with "JV3" providing hits from the 80s, 90s, and today. "The proceeds raised benefit the Depot Building and Museum.  As a proponent of downtown Cheyenne and its history, it's not only a fun way to team build with your fellow employees, it's a great cause," said Ken Dugas, MHP Partner.

Cheyenne Frontier Days is the "World's Largest Outdoor Rodeo and Western Celebration." Taking over Cheyenne the last full week of July, MHP uses this time to celebrate our local charitable groups. Cheyenne Kiwanis Club, with the help of the Cheyenne Boy and Girl Scouts, has been hosting the pancake breakfast for nearly 50 years. Wayne Herr, MHP Partner said, "I volunteer for the pancake breakfast because it gives me an opportunity to provide a great service to the community and out-of-town visitors while working with fantastic Kiwanis volunteers. Kiwanis isn't something you join; it is something you do." Club members serve tens of thousands of FREE pancakes to people at Cheyenne Depot Square.

As the days become shorter and the air begins to bite, MHP will continue to press on, not only doing taxes and audits, but also with philanthropic work and sports! Women's volleyball is just days from starting and the Boys & Girls Club of Cheyenne's Dancing with the Stars of Cheyenne is set for just a few weeks from now. No matter what the season, you can always count on MHP to be there…and having a great time together!
