The 33rd Annual Governor's Business Forum

January 11, 2016

Gov Matt Mead.jpgShow up.  Be brilliant at the basics.  Don't react, respond.  You're not having a bad life, you're having a bad day.  When you're done saying what you're saying, stop.  Trust your people.  Keep moving forward.  NEVER quit.

These simple phrases were the core of a powerful message at the 33rd Annual Governor's Business Forum held November 16-18 in Cheyenne.  The Forum brings together business, political, education, health care, and community leaders from across the State and region.  This year's Forum was entitled, Economic Horizons:  National, State, and Across Wyoming Counties.  McGee, Hearne & Paiz, LLP (MHP) has been privileged to participate in the Forum during the last three decades, and this year's event proved a particular honor.

One of the keynote speakers was Rob O'Neill, former Team Leader with the Naval Special Warfare Department Group, also known as SEAL Team VI.  Mr. O'Neill revealed to Fox News in 2014 that he was the shooter who killed Osama bin Laden.  A native of Butte, Montana, the Forum introduced Mr. O'Neill as one of the most highly decorated combat veterans of our time.  He was deployed more than a dozen times and held combat leadership roles in more than 400 missions in four different theaters of war.  Mr. O'Neill has been decorated more than 52 times, including two Silver Stars, four Bronze Stars with Valor, a Joint Service Commendation medal with Valor, three Presidential Unit citations, and two Navy/Marine Corps Commendations with Valor.

Having trained more than 800 special operations and tactical operators, O'Neill now translates his training into high impact, actionable insights on leadership, decision making, and operating in uncertain environments.  His mantra is NEVER quit.  Through his charity, Your Grateful Nation, Mr. O'Neill works to raise awareness and financial support for special operations military personnel making the transition from the battlefield to the boardroom.

The audience, comprised of leaders from throughout the State and Rocky Mountain region, were held in rapt attention as Mr. O'Neill spoke of his military experiences and of the security threats to our nation, including cyber security.  However, his core message was one of aspiration and inspiration, which left the audience with a renewed commitment to serving our communities and our State.

Russ Hay, Partner, observed, "The audience was captivated and listened spellbound as Mr. O'Neill relayed his training put into action in life threatening situations."  Ken Dugas concurred and shared, "I appreciate the opportunity to meet and visit with business and government leaders from across the State of Wyoming.  The success stories shared at the forum by Wyoming business owners are something I look forward to hearing each year."

MHP would like to acknowledge staff who participated in this year's Forum.  Jim Hearne, retired Managing Partner, participated in the School Readiness panel.  Robert Dahill, Ken Dugas, and Russ Hay attended both days of the Forum.  Tasha Selfridge coordinated and set up the MHP information table.  We would also like to acknowledge the Office of the Governor, the Wyoming Business Alliance, and the Wyoming Heritage Foundation for an excellent Forum, and thank them for the wonderful opportunities the Forum offers every year.
